Chevy Chase as Captain Kirk and Zombie's at Greendale... must be Halloween:

Dan Harmon talked to EW.com about the super secret Halloween episode that teases to be better and bigger than last years Halloween and Paintball together!

Harmon Teases there will be zombies and Chevy Chase as Captain Kirk!

“Knowing too much about this particular plot would ruin it, but I promise it’s an awesome, one-off crazy conceptual episode with plot points and effects that are more familiar to horror film fans than our show’s fans,” Harmon revealed last Friday on the Community set. (As he was talking, a parade of costumed and bloodied extras marched through GCC’s hallowed halls, which were decked out with fake bats, chains, smoke machines, and various dismembered body parts.) “We’re going over schedule and over budget to get it right,” he adds. “I’ve had to promise to do a few what I call ‘Bottle Episodes,’ where the group never leaves the library, to make up for it.”

Luckily, we were able to scare up a few more details from Joel McHale, whose character Jeff Winger dresses up as David Beckham. “Last year, Annie was throwing a party and spent the episode trying to get everyone involved and we ended [up] at the party. This year, the groupstarts at the party, some circumstances beyond their control happen, and they start behaving badly to put it mildly. Like every crazy thing that goes down at Greendale, there is a perfectly legitimate explanation.”

Case in point: There’s a very good reason why Abed is dressed as an alien and Troy is Sigourney Weaver in the yellow robot suit. ” Our costumes are a metaphor for us,” said Donald Glover. “The robot is mechanical and cold like Abed, and Alien is strange and works all on instinct like Troy.”

Other costumes include Pierce’s Captain Kirk, Annie’s Little Red Riding Hood, Britta’s tyrannosaurus rex, and Shirley’s Glenda the Good Witch/Barbie/Miss Piggy confection.

Community Soundtrack!

First Dan Harmon confirmed that a Community Soundtrack is in the works and The 88’s who sing the Community theme song will be recording an extended version for the album. 

But wait there is more!

The 88’s are about to release their new album in September.

Betty White rocks and other Community Guest News!

Betty White will not be the only Guest Stars on the upcomming season of Community

• Drew Carey will guest star on this fall's third episode as a former co-worker of Jeff's.
• Rob Corddry will also appear on an episode as a past acquaintance of Joel McHale's character.

Plus TVguide clues us in on Bettie White's spot!

In the second-season premiere of Community, the nicely ripped Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) receives a righteous beat-down from Betty White, America's favorite octogenarian, who plays a deeply eccentric anthropology professor named Jane Bauer.

As the scene was rehearsed July 29 in L.A., on a set where Senor Chang's Spanish class once stood, White's character employs a primitive weapon — part crossbow, part noose, all lethal — to put shame to Jeff's theory that "respect" is the tool that will preserve mankind. When she has Jeff on the ground, his throat in a sling, he gasps, "I respect you."

"That's why you failed," White replies, her trademark sweetness tinged with archly comic sadism.

White plays Bauer (Jack's grandmother?) in Community's second-season premiere, airing Sept. 23 on NBC.

Some of Bauer's moves require an athleticism that the 88-year-old White understandably cannot provide, so a stunt double is brought in. White, the usual sugar in her voice, asks her, "Honey, will you do me a favor?"

The stunt double, as awed as the rest of the cast and crew by the iconic White, replies, "Anything for you."

White says flatly, "Don't screw up," delivering her improvised joke for the sole benefit of those in attendance with the same élan as she does her punchlines in appearances seen by millions.

Since arriving on the set, White has been determined to entertain her colleagues. When she arrived on the set, she told the cast and crew, "You make a great show, despite havingChevy [Chase]."

McHale is unfailingly un-Winger-esque as he extends a hand to help White off high steps and platforms between takes. She reciprocates by tenderly patting his back when they confer on how to approach scenes, even if they involve how she'll try to kill him.

He tells her that her character is hardly alone in humiliating him, listing some of the more violent encounters the writers have concocted for Jeff to endure on the show. White deadpans, "I would take it as a comment as to how they feel about you."

The rest of Community's cast and crew are equally thrilled to have her join them. Gillian Jacobs, who co-stars as Britta, Jeff's once-and-future flirtation, exults, "Thank God — we'll use some of her reflected glory."

Ken Jeong, who plays the recently disgraced Senor Chang, agrees: "Yeah, let some of the Elvis dust rub off on us—absolutely."

Donald Glover, who plays former jock Troy, provides background on White's character. "It seems as though she probably saw something somewhere, like in a jungle or somewhere and realized, 'Oh, we're all horrible. We're all animals.' Because she's so sweet on the outside and dark on the inside, much like our group."

"She's also in preparation for something," adds Danny Pudi, who plays deadpan nerd Abed. "She has a strategy in place — there's something that's going to happen to the world, like the animals will take over, and she's ready for that."

"Apocalypse preparedness, yeah," Jacobs agrees.

"She's ready to destroy whatever she needs to survive," Pudi concludes.

Fortunately, the episode isn't as obsessed with the end of days as White's character may be. White simply says she's having "good, silly fun" with the Community crew.

And though creator Dan Harmon says he'd love to make Jane Bauer a recurring character, White is self-deprecatingly skeptical: "What would they do with this old broad?"

John Oliver to Teach Anthropology Class on Community

At this weekend's Comic-Con panel, series creator Dan Harmon said John Oliver will be promoted this fall. Look for The Daily Show correspondent to take over anthropology taught byBetty White on the Community premiere in September.

Said Harmon:

"He's one of the funniest guys I've ever worked with. I wanted to see what it might be like, just to see it, if he in fact was the so-called Chang and Chang was one of the students. Whether or not that makes Chang part of the study group, I won't address, but I wanted to see John Oliver in front of our ensemble, teaching some kind of class. The nice way to do it is to have him filling in for a suspended Betty White."

Community received the first standing ovation at this year’s Comic Con.  People are even talking about how nice Chevy is!  I love the world we live in!

Dan Harmon had this to say about the people who joined the group:

“You guys at the Community panel gave us all the best experience of our lives, and we owe you, especially if you didn't get in.”

Gillian Jacobs said this: That was one of the most pure expressions of love I have ever seen. Yes, I did cry. Thank you.

Oh, and did we mention the Community crew totally dominated the Con today with the first standing ovation from the crowd that we've seen thus far?!

True story: It was adorably heartwarming watching Gillian wipe tears of joy from her eyes after the outpouring of love you Community kids showed the cast at Saturday's panel. And while it was a much-deserved reception, something tells us Joel and Co. weren't expecting all the love you guys had to give. Especially since a majority of the stars felt the need to turn the panel around and thank the fans for the warm welcome.

"I am the luckiest person in the world to be doing this role," Danny gushed. And Yvette added: "This is amazing. We have never seen this much humanity in one place honoring our show. Thank you so, so much."

Now, that scoopy goodness we promised. According to the genius known as Dan Harmon, he conquered the action-movie-turned-TV-show-episode last season, so this year, somewhere around episode four, he's bringing Greendale to outer space. It's still a work in progress, but the name Apollo was mentioned, which brings to mind Tom Hanks in Apollo 13, which was a great movie, which means this will be a great show. See how we did that there?

Each cast member was also gracious enough to give us a little tease about their character's future plans, so here's your breakdown:

Jeff: Remember that shocktastic finale kiss between Jeff and Annie? Well don't expect the two to just go on their merry way and ignore it completely. "All the open-ended questions that were left open, like me making out with Annie, Britta confessing her love, even Troy and Pierce's moving in together, all get answered," Joel tells us. "You know Gilligan's Island just used to reset? Nothing's changed!' Everything's changed." Dun-dun-dun!

Britta: "Right now she's just operating on the hurt of being rejected, let alone the added humiliation that he went out and kissed Annie," Gillian spills. "I don't know how she's going to deal with it. She's got a fragile ego as we learned over the course of season one and she likes to win, so there are going to be explosive fireworks in the study room."

Annie: For the record, Alison is Team Whatever's Best for the Show. "It's not like they ever had Jeff being this creepy dude going after this young girl," is how she laughs off weird reactions to the Jeff and Annie hookup. "So I don't think it would be the weirdest thing, but I would never want the show to just get caught up in too much romantic drama, because we're a smart comedy. It's fun to be able to do the wacky zany stuff and not be Gossip Girl." No offense, of course.

Abed: Danny promises Abed will still be Abed—in a more grown up way. "Abed has had a summer now to explore documentary filmmaking. Abed has a two picture deal. He's got a first look deal with Sony, a second look deal with NBC [Laughs.] No, Abed is excited. He's tried to get out of the falafel restaurant. He's been in there just making falafel balls, and these hands aren't made for falafel. So, I'm excited to see what we do with that." God, we love you Danny Pudi.

Shirley: Yvette wants some lovin' for her lady! "I hope we'll see more of her family," she tells us, "and I'm still shooting for that love interest. I'm like, 'c'mon!'. I want Isaiah Mustafa. He's got an NBC deal! The Old Spice Guy. I love him. I've been campaigning so much with Dan and on Twitter!" Her second choice? Malcolm Jamal Warner.

Troy: Get ready for a geeky Troy. "We've already seen he's not talking about football anymore and I won't be wearing the ring or the Rolex next year," Donald says. "He's changing a lot. He's turning into this uber weird nerdy kid that he wasn't allowed to be in high school, so there's going to be a lot of changes for Troy."

Pierce: Unfortunately, Chevy tells us he has no idea what's coming up for Pierce...so let's all go guess in the comments section, shall we?

Side note on one of the best panels we've seen all weekend: The whole gang is crazy excited about Betty White's premiere appearance and Joel tells us he believes she'll be back for more: "Betty White's our new professor. And I think it might reoccur if she agrees to it. Please Betty, please."

Also, Danny and Donald were kind enough to finish the panel off with a rapping rendition of that hit "Biblioteca" and a "Somewhere Out There" duet. It. Was. Incredible.

Community Comic books and the first look at season one DVD box art!

Okay Community Fans… don’t freak out but Dan Harmon has announced to EW.com that every copy of the season one DVD set will include an issue of Kickpuncher the Comic book!  As if that is not enough we may even get more Community theme Comic books!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tell me about this comic book adventure.

DAN HARMON: The comic book is written by Troy Barnes, Donald Glover’s character, within the Greendale universe. The idea is that he was in an art class with Jim Mahfood –  who I’ve known for a long time — who’s a really cool underground, yet successful, comic book artist and muralist. The idea is that he’s an art student at Greendale and had an art class with Troy, who took a shine to his talents and decided to take him under his wing as a protégé and do this comic book. So it’s from the mind of Troy Barnes, which can be a little scattered. At times he’s not a master storyteller, but he is an entertainer. [Laughs] So it’s six pages of satisfying content, which does feature Annie and Britta in a typical comic book situation, which is scantily clad and in jeopardy. And it, of course, features Kickpuncher, who is at the whim of Troy and Abed because they’re so cool.

How’d it come about? 

It was an idea that I wanted to do. It came to me late in the game, and it’s so cool that Sony was able to just take the ball and run with it immediately. Relative to how early you should come up with an idea like this, it was really late in the game. The way I came up with it was people do fan art on Twitter, and somebody Tweeted an image from the paintball game that was a very heroic and airbrushed and a comic book-y tableau of the ensemble holding their paint guns and looking cool. When I looked at it, I suddenly — embarrassingly — remembered that I worked in comic books in the ’90s and have connections and have access to huge teams of people who can get stuff done and that I had a DVD hitting shelves. It sort of hit me in one afternoon that we had to put a comic book in the DVD because that’s really cool, and we have to go to Comic-Con and work these people into a lather. My hope is that this will whet the appetite and prove to be a successful thing so we can — not unlike The Simpsons — eventually have multiple Community outlets for expression. In other words, it would be really cool to do a 25-20 page Kickpuncher comic book written by Troy and/or Abed. Or maybe other characters taking turns at writing storylines to get revenge on Troy’s storyline. But, at any rate, having an actual product. One of the cool things about Community is that as crazy as it is, the world invites you to believe it’s real and that the characters are real.

Are we going to see the comic worked into season 2?

I think that would be cool. I’d like to validate the thing. I think I’m going to wait and see fan response. If everyone thinks it’s a totally stupid thing, I won’t waste the TV show’s energy on acknowledging the existence of this thing, but if it’s really cool, then it might make an interesting story tool within the show itself. For example, much like Abed’s short films, the characters’ reacting to their portrayal in Troy’s comic book. I like to have a healthy amount of interaction with the fans because you only have 20 minutes a week to communicate with these people. One minute of that time is relatively valuable. I’ll wait the two days to see how valuable they think this topic is.

Finally, I have to ask, did you really do commentary on every episode for the DVD set?

Yea. As you can tell, I can say a lot without getting anything done. So if I did commentary on only four episodes, the only thing I would establish is that I like pretzels and that the show was fun to do. So I have to cast a wide net to get any communication done. But I also put myself in the shoes of the consumer. As much as we could, we try to give people on the DVD that we thought we would want. The thing about commentary is that it should be this thing that we provide that is ubiquitous, and if you want to hear it you can hit that button. You should be able to do that on every episode. But half the time all we’re going to be doing is being drunk and farting around. So if we’re doing that, we felt we had to do that for 25 episodes, because it would be weird to do that for select episodes. My memory of it is that you’re not going to come out of our commentary with a film school education, but with more insights into personality conflicts within different combinations of actors and myself and directors [laughs] and a lot of ridiculous joking around. But having it on all the episodes makes it a big blanket of absurdity.

Community creator Dan Harmon has revealed details of Betty White's guest role on the program.

Earlier this month, it emerged that the formerGolden Girls star will appear as a professor in an episode of the NBC show's new season.

Speaking to TV Guide, Harmon explained that he always wanted White to take on the role.

"Hopefully, it's a little cooler for her than just straight-up being profane," he continued. "I've been a fan for a long time, so I wrote to capitalise on the stuff she's brought to the table for a long time."

Harmon also released more information about White's character, saying: "She's sort of my version of Joseph Campbell if he wasn't interested in being polite. She has a great deal of knowledge, she's a student of humanity, and therefore knows there's a very blurry line between man and animal. 

"She has a primal practical wisdom - she's eccentric but quite the opposite of insane. She's very lucid, to the point of maybe being scary. She's an impersonal cosmic force."

Harmon added that he would love White to reprise her role in the future, saying: "The role is specifically designed so that if she enjoys doing it, we'd love to have her back."

Community returns for its second season on September 23 on NBC.

Emmy's Suck:

Well First up our very own Joel McHale and Sophia Vergara (Modern Family) announced the 2010 Emmy awards this morning.  Well what can I say… we were snubbed!

Mchale has said to digitalspy.com that he would not be heartbroken over the loss of nominations:

"My only main concern is making Community and helping Community be the best show on television," he said. "If people will give us a nomination, then terrific. But I love going to work. So I feel like a kid in a candy store."

He continued:

"Dan Harmon, our creator, I really do think he's some sort of mad genius. And I will fight to the death for all my castmates. I'm blown away by what they do every day."

Alison Brie joins Scream 4!

Dimision Films announced last week that Allison Brie has joined the cast of the movie Scream 4.  The film brings the suriveing cast, Director Wes Craven, Screenwriter Kevin Williamson and is filming now.  I can’t wait! 

Brie will play Rebecca, Neve Campbell’s “ambitious personal assistant who envies her boss’ reluctant fame and fortune”.

Filming is already underway in Michigan and Scre4m is scheduled to be released on April 15th 2011.

Jim Rash Screenwriter:

Jim Rash who plays our favorite Dean happens to also be a screenwriter who has finished the script for the now filming picture The Descendants.

George Clooney stars in the "The Descendants," a drama based on the book by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The project has just kicked off filming in Hawaii.

The plot follows Clooney as a husband and dad who attempts to work on his troubled relationship with this two daughters after his wife gets into a boating accident in Waikiki.

"Alison Brie Loves Kissing Joel McHale!" New interview with Alison!

www.popeater.com has a great interview with Alison Brie where she gives us the scoop on what its like kissing Joel Mchale the secret of Starburns and where the Annie/Jeff relationship is going to go.

Alison Officially confirmed what Dan Harmon had hinted at about the DVD’s, that we will get commentaries’ on all 25 episodes and that Dan Harmon will be in them all!

Yeah, but what about kissing Joel?

[Laughter] I will say, on the record, that ... it ain't bad. Joel's definitely a good sport. I can see the headline now: "Alison Brie Loves Kissing Joel McHale!" I would say the guy's a good kisser because he's got a lot of practice. Basically any woman that comes on the show eventually kisses Joel McHale. He's been around the block, ya know [laughs].

Star-Burns (Dino Stamatopoulos), what's his secret?

Dino's one of our writers and he sort of got thrown into the part, originally. It's a character that people have just grown to love, and I think Dino likes playing it more now. In the beginning, I think he felt like he sort of fell into this role. I don't think he knew how big it was going to be. Luckily, he likes to keep a beard anyway, so I think the star burns kind of get lost in the beard and when it's time, he'll just shave them again. He's getting really good at shaving those stars. I think for a while, he was the most recognizable person on the show, other than Joel and Chevy [Chase].

Were you really in a 'Hannah Montana' episode?

I was! It was my first TV job out of college. It was the first season of 'Hannah Montana,' so before all the hype or before Miley Cyrus blew up. So, I had no idea what it was, I was just, 'Yea, I booked a Disney show' and I get to work for a couple days. I had no idea where it was gonna go.

Well it has been quite a week for Community and we got quite a few tips from our readers so here goes!

 

Dan Harmon tells us some details about the DVD extras that we are all on the edge of our seats waiting for.  Nothing certain yet but he tells us that right now there may be a commentary on every episode!  We will have a full list of extras in about a week or two!  I can’t wait!

SeamusHanly tells us that Community will soon begin airing in Ireland on 3e! Apparently there are already a ton of fans over seas which is cool because I always thought the show was too US specific for the rest of the world but that shows what I know!  I guess Community is an international hit!

Jeff, Annie and the "Ick" factor.

TVSquad.com has an article addressing the “ick” factor between Jeff and Annie and how Dan Harmon and company may deal with it.  From TVsquad.com

But that affection between Annie and Jeff hasn't always felt romantic, mainly because Dan Harmon and his writing staff wrote themselves into a bit of a corner by making Annie a true college freshman. In other words, the character is 18, 19 at the most. And, considering Joel McHale is playing a character in his late thirties, the only way that affection can work is if they feel more like brother and sister than anything else.

And, even though Jeff and Annie have kissed before, the kiss at the end of the season finale was something completely different. But, because of the characters' age difference, the only word that came to mind while I watched it was "ick."

But by throwing Jeff and Annie together, Harmon and crew have acknowledged that they made a mistake. All season, they've addressed the fact that Jeff was old enough to be Annie's very young father, but they knew that putting them together was full of comic possibilities. And they realize that Brie can pull the romance off, because she comes off more like a 30-year-old than a teenager.

So, how will they deal with the age difference next season?

1. Mine it for laughs. Jeff is a cradle robber. Annie is dating an old man. Everyone at Greendale looks at them like they're freaks. Heck, we could even see Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Jeff bond over their lust for much younger women. There are a lot of funny ways this can go, and the writers of 'Community' might be just daring enough to go there.

2. Magically age Annie. This can be done one of two ways: she just starts the season at 25 without explanation, or Harmon builds a story about how Annie forged her birth certificate to play field hockey in high school or something like that. Once we all made the connection that Brie also played Trudy Campbell on 'Mad Men,' the idea that she was 19 went out the window, anyway.

3. Ignore it. Just don't address it. There's plenty about Annie and Jeff -- like Jeff telling the study group to ignore her Disney Face -- that's funny without having to address the age difference at all.

Just announced that Joel McHale and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) will join Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman-CEO John Shaffner at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, to announce the 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards Nominations.

"I have two children, and I've never woken up this early for anything." says Joel McHale.

Joel McHale is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in comedy. He currently stars in the NBC comedy series, Community, in which he plays a lawyer forced to go back to community college after his undergraduate degree is declared invalid. While there, he forms a study group with other misfit students including Chevy Chase. He recently starred in the Steven Soderbergh-directed, Warner Independent dark comedic thriller, The Informant, opposite Matt Damon. He was also recently cast in two feature films shooting this summer, What's Your Number and The Big Year.

McHale is also known as the star of E!'s The Soup, a weekly entertainment show which satirizes pop culture and current events. McHale's quick wit and sharp comedic timing have made The Soup a pop-culture phenomenon. McHale also tours the country to sold-out audiences with his stand-up act.

Born in Rome, Italy, and raised in Seattle, Washington, McHale became a cast member on Comedy Central's Almost Live, a show from a group of Seattle-based performers which featured a mixture of skit-comedy and stand-up. McHale played on the University of Washington's championship football team and also completed the Actor's Training Master Program at UW. After moving to L.A., McHale landed roles on Will & Grace, CSI: Miami and Pushing Daisies. He also jumped onto the big screen with roles in Spider-man 2 and Lords of Dogtown.

Secrets of tonight's episode!

E! calls tonight's all new episode of Community as "Groundbreaking!"

E! was able to catch up to Dan Harmon who is overseas on vacation.

Basically, we've been touting this "conceptual" episode of Community for months on end, and after finally screening this 30-minute treat, we get the hype. It's unlike anything we've seen on television before, and is truly fit for the big screen. The quality is movie-like, the budget must have been ginormous because the effects are unreal—and all of your favorite Greendale kids are there, including an decked-out-in-Army-duds Abed (Danny Pudi), a muscle-shirt-donning Troy (Donald Glover) and a shirtless, muscled-up Jeff (Joel McHale). All good things. Plus, there is some serious romantic development—jaw-droppingly so!—and major badassness courtesy of Community's resident chicks, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown and Alison Brie.

Now back to Dan. We were dying to know the inspiration behind this wartime epic, and here's what he tells us: "I just love action movies. And when I saw what a successful tone-juggling act Justin Lin did directing the Halloween episode, I knew it might be possible to do some cool stuff with him down the line. Then I thought, 'Wait, how do you know there's ever going to be a down the line?' if you've got cool stuff you want to do, do it during the season you know you have."

'Community' And The Art Of Confidence: An awesome story from NPR

Linda Holmes at NPR just wrote an amazing article on Community.  It explores some of the funniest moments of the first season and a wonderful explanation of “Streets ahead.”

Streets ahead. The first thing you need to know in order to appreciate all the levels at which this scene is firing is that show creator Dan Harmon had a run-in ("run-in" actually seems a little too hostile for what it was) with someone on Twitter who tossed out the insult, "Both Modern Family and Glee are streets ahead of your meta bull----." (Without the dashes.)

Harmon found the phrase "streets ahead," even (or maybe especially) in an insult directed at himself, absolutely hilarious, and he's been using it ever since. If you run a search on the phrase on this archive of his tweets, you will see just how much he loves it. And now, it made it into his show.

What's great about this particular inside joke is that even if you don't follow Harmon on Twitter and have no familiarity with this at all, it's still funny. But if you know that he's essentially teasing an obnoxious detractor, it's much funnier.
