Chevy Chase Community Birthday Cake!

Well its my Birthday and as some of you have guessed I am a Chevy Chase fan and this year my wonderful girlfriend got me the greatest big cookie cake ever!

Since last seasons finale I have been craving a giant cookie and my girlfriend got the hints so i thought I would share it with all of you!

She did and great job and yes... it was good and yes too much of a good thing is bad... maybe next year I won't eat it all at once!

Chevy Chase rates his own movies! A look back.

Once again we are celebrating the birth of the finest American Actor, Chevy Chase!  In celebration I thought it would be fun to take a look at the career of the genius with the man himself.  Kinda.

This is a famous interview with Chevy from 1989.  This interview has become infamous over the years as Chevy comes off as somewhat arrogant in the interview but that is Chevy and that is why we love him.  These are simply some of the highlights and for more check out the full interview at Movieline.com.

In this excerpt Chevy rate some of his own films:

Since the critics usually attack your films, how would you like a chance to rank what you’ve done on a scale of 1-10?

I’d give Deal of the Century a five.

**Glad you’re playing. What about your first film, Foul Play?**

Everybody seems to like Foul Play, so I’m beginning to think it’s a good movie, but at the time I didn’t think so. I was very much against them making me fall off the pier into the water for the good old days. I never got over that. I was so pissed about it. I suppose the highest I could go on that is a seven.

Weren’t you involved with Goldie Hawn at that time?

Most people who knew us back then knew that we were romantically involved. Particularly during the making of Foul Play. But obviously that changed. Nothing went sour, we just went our separate ways. But yeah, we were very much in love at the time. Very infatuated.

Have you considered working together again in a similar kind of film?

People talk to me and Goldie over the years about doing another similar picture, but I think she would prefer to work with Kurt [Russell]. I mean, I love her and I think we work great together but there haven’t been any scripts that have come to both of us. Now that she’s at Disney and I’m at Warners I don’t see how that’s going to happen.

**Back to your rating your films. What about Seems Like Old Times?**

Six. It was kind of the last of those Neil Simon-type pictures that worked and it was great to work with Neil and his lines. I don’t think people have the patience for that kind of thing.

Oh, Heavenly Dog!

CHASE: Benji was hot. It was an opportunity to work with a dog. I never saw the picture. I’d give it a two.

Modern Problems.

CHASE: I’d give that a one. There were too many drugs in Modern Problems.

Weren’t you almost electrocuted in that?

Yeah. It was awful. I had a scene in which I was to be wired as a landing airplane in a dream sequence and the special effects people had devised it so that these lights would go over my shirt. The director felt that wasn’t right, and that it should go under the shirt and attach to my skin. We were all a little nervous about that. They turned on the juice and I just was getting electrocuted and they thought I was kidding, screaming and yelling, “Turn it off!” In fact it was real and I fainted. The paramedics came. I was almost killed, according to the doctor. The burns were to the muscles in my shoulders, arms and back. I was weak for a long time.

**How do you feel about Caddyshack?**

There were too many drugs in that too, but that wasn’t a problem. The more I’ve seen it over the years, the less I thought it was a good picture. I really liked Billy’s [Murray] performance, and Ted Knight’s. Rodney’s just Rodney, not a good actor obviously. It’s up there at six or seven.

**Under the Rainbow?**

I met my wife then. She was working as production coordinator. First picture I made $2 million on. It was just a fiasco. Awfully funny script, but it changed.

**The first Vacation?**

I’d give that an eight. I always thought that was one of my best. It had a wonderful spirit and charm and it was so much fun to make.

**The first Fletch?**

CHASE: A six. It made use of me in a way films hadn’t — it showed a more serious side, an ability to behave and act like a detective.

**The second Fletch?**

CHASE: A four.

European Vacation?

I rate it low. It opened bigger than any of my other films because of the expectation after the first one.

**Spies Like Us?**

CHASE: I forgot about that. That was all right, a five or six. I had to work with [John] Landis.

**That was after the tragedy with the deaths of the children and Vic Morrow on Twilight Zone—the Movie. Was Landis, who directed that segment, affected when you worked with him?**

He was affected, but not able to show it very well. If anything, it should have changed the way he dealt with people but it didn’t. He’s a bit of a bully, to say the least, with the wrong people, the easy shots. He’s got a crassness about him. Anybody who can pick on a set decorator or an extra in front of everybody else in a very mean way is lacking something. I would think that an experience like Twilight Zone—the Movie would put some humility into your life. But it didn’t.

Landis also directed you, Steve Martin, and Martin Short in Three Amigos!

That was great fun. I put that right up there with Vacation. Landis and his egoism cut out a lot of the funniest, best stuff of that picture. It could have been cut better. But Steve and Marty, we have Amigo dinners all the time. We became best friends in that.

**You had a small part in Caddyshack II.**

A bit part for less than a million bucks. I had nothing to do with it. I just went in for a week and shot my stuff. Had no idea how bad the movie was. That was just a horrible picture. That’s down at zero.

**Funny Farm?**

I rank it pretty high, though there’s not much to the picture. It’s a funny movie. My dad was very upset about the picture. He felt that it made no use of what is intrinsically indigenous and good about what I do. George Roy Hill just did not want me to mug in any way. He wanted pure, real acting and he felt it would be funnier because of that. I learned less is more in some cases, but I was also fighting him the whole way. Ultimately the picture came out dull because it lacked the things that I do give to a movie that people do expect.

**And your latest, Christmas Vacation?**

It has a different look and feel and I’m quite good in it, so I’d have to rank it high. I had a lot to do with it and I chose the director, who is a first-time director. But it’s not Moby Dick. It’s what I’ve been sort of forced into doing over the years. It’s only there to make you laugh, it’s not a particularly deep movie.

Community Soundtrack is Streets Ahead!

Just received my Community Soundtrack from Amazon.  Three Weeks late but okay at least I got it.

The CD is pretty good.  It only includes original music made for Community but thats Okay with me!

There is Plenty of Pierce, Abed, Troy, Vaughn with the nipples and Ludwig's amazing scores not to mention the full extended version of the 88's theme song! I think Chevy fans will really enjoy this as he really shines in more than one song including the Greendale School song "Greendale's the way it is!"

Chevy in Esquire

Our good friend over at the Chevy Chase Show blog brings us this great article of Chevy on... well everything,  from Esquire.  Here are some of the highlights!

My father was the funniest guy I ever met. I'm not sure if I stole his stuff or if I inherited it.

You could knock my teeth out and break my nose and there'd be something funny about it to me.

Billy Murray and I came to fisticuffs, but we never really ended up hitting each other. We tried, but Belushi got in the middle and we both ended up hitting John. And if anybody deserved to be slapped in the forehead it was John, for instigating it all.

The best advice I can give you about falling is to never land.

I never shot things up or freebased. I was pretty low-level when it came to drug abuse. I checked myself into the Betty Ford Clinic after my nose started to hurt.

Love is huge. But if you're talking about men and women, it's got to start with the most initial obvious attraction that warthogs go through. Look at that ass! That's what keeps the world spinning. There's your God.

I'm still in love with my wife the way I was when I fell in love with her thirty years ago. That's luck.

My favorite food is eggs. I like 'em over easy on a muffin with a little ham. I can have four of those every morning. I eat more eggs than anyone I know. How can you not love eggs? It's our birthright.

I'm about as bright on Community as I was in school.

I went to college with every intention of being a doctor. I was redirected by my grades. That, and a fake radio show that I improvised with some friends. Wasn't even on the air.

I don't think eggs are so filled with cholesterol as people think. The problem comes in with how they're made, the sauces and that kind of stuff. I could be wrong.

I remember the first "Update" I did on Saturday Night Live. They had big cameras back then, and you were looking into a huge lens. I wasn't nervous at all because I looked right through that lens and imagined the faces of the seven funniest people I knew. It never occurred to me that millions of people were watching. What I did was just for the eight of us.

It takes somebody smart to play somebody dumb.

It's all timing — Nixon leaving. Ford handed the presidency. Luckily for me, Ford kept on tripping over things. I didn't make any attempt to do an impression of him. I would simply take a nice fall or hit my head out of nowhere and get huge laughs for it. People used to joke that it really hurt Ford in the election he lost to Carter. It was close, and someone said I got a point in the New York primary.

I left Saturday Night Live after that first year. I never wanted to work for more than a year on anything.

I wish John were alive today. I'd love to see. Would he have kids? Would he be a grandfather? What would he look like? What you realize is, there aren't that many funny people in the world. You lose a guy like Belushi... ah, it's hideous.

It will eventually be discovered that the more you sleep, the healthier you are. Which means you'll really be at your healthiest when you pass away.

A good name for a mistress would be close to a man's name so that nobody would know. Like... Conane.

I always fly first class. To remind myself.

Live a life of grace. You'll be a better person for it, and so will your children.

Break as few bones as possible and make as much noise as you can.

More Community from Comic-con

Community received the first standing ovation at this year’s Comic Con.  People are even talking about how nice Chevy is!  I love the world we live in!

Dan Harmon had this to say about the people who joined the group:

“You guys at the Community panel gave us all the best experience of our lives, and we owe you, especially if you didn't get in.”

Gillian Jacobs said this: That was one of the most pure expressions of love I have ever seen. Yes, I did cry. Thank you.

Oh, and did we mention the Community crew totally dominated the Con today with the first standing ovation from the crowd that we've seen thus far?!

True story: It was adorably heartwarming watching Gillian wipe tears of joy from her eyes after the outpouring of love you Community kids showed the cast at Saturday's panel. And while it was a much-deserved reception, something tells us Joel and Co. weren't expecting all the love you guys had to give. Especially since a majority of the stars felt the need to turn the panel around and thank the fans for the warm welcome.

"I am the luckiest person in the world to be doing this role," Danny gushed. And Yvette added: "This is amazing. We have never seen this much humanity in one place honoring our show. Thank you so, so much."

Now, that scoopy goodness we promised. According to the genius known as Dan Harmon, he conquered the action-movie-turned-TV-show-episode last season, so this year, somewhere around episode four, he's bringing Greendale to outer space. It's still a work in progress, but the name Apollo was mentioned, which brings to mind Tom Hanks in Apollo 13, which was a great movie, which means this will be a great show. See how we did that there?

Each cast member was also gracious enough to give us a little tease about their character's future plans, so here's your breakdown:

Jeff: Remember that shocktastic finale kiss between Jeff and Annie? Well don't expect the two to just go on their merry way and ignore it completely. "All the open-ended questions that were left open, like me making out with Annie, Britta confessing her love, even Troy and Pierce's moving in together, all get answered," Joel tells us. "You know Gilligan's Island just used to reset? Nothing's changed!' Everything's changed." Dun-dun-dun!

Britta: "Right now she's just operating on the hurt of being rejected, let alone the added humiliation that he went out and kissed Annie," Gillian spills. "I don't know how she's going to deal with it. She's got a fragile ego as we learned over the course of season one and she likes to win, so there are going to be explosive fireworks in the study room."

Annie: For the record, Alison is Team Whatever's Best for the Show. "It's not like they ever had Jeff being this creepy dude going after this young girl," is how she laughs off weird reactions to the Jeff and Annie hookup. "So I don't think it would be the weirdest thing, but I would never want the show to just get caught up in too much romantic drama, because we're a smart comedy. It's fun to be able to do the wacky zany stuff and not be Gossip Girl." No offense, of course.

Abed: Danny promises Abed will still be Abed—in a more grown up way. "Abed has had a summer now to explore documentary filmmaking. Abed has a two picture deal. He's got a first look deal with Sony, a second look deal with NBC [Laughs.] No, Abed is excited. He's tried to get out of the falafel restaurant. He's been in there just making falafel balls, and these hands aren't made for falafel. So, I'm excited to see what we do with that." God, we love you Danny Pudi.

Shirley: Yvette wants some lovin' for her lady! "I hope we'll see more of her family," she tells us, "and I'm still shooting for that love interest. I'm like, 'c'mon!'. I want Isaiah Mustafa. He's got an NBC deal! The Old Spice Guy. I love him. I've been campaigning so much with Dan and on Twitter!" Her second choice? Malcolm Jamal Warner.

Troy: Get ready for a geeky Troy. "We've already seen he's not talking about football anymore and I won't be wearing the ring or the Rolex next year," Donald says. "He's changing a lot. He's turning into this uber weird nerdy kid that he wasn't allowed to be in high school, so there's going to be a lot of changes for Troy."

Pierce: Unfortunately, Chevy tells us he has no idea what's coming up for Pierce...so let's all go guess in the comments section, shall we?

Side note on one of the best panels we've seen all weekend: The whole gang is crazy excited about Betty White's premiere appearance and Joel tells us he believes she'll be back for more: "Betty White's our new professor. And I think it might reoccur if she agrees to it. Please Betty, please."

Also, Danny and Donald were kind enough to finish the panel off with a rapping rendition of that hit "Biblioteca" and a "Somewhere Out There" duet. It. Was. Incredible.

Community gets Teen Choice Award Nominations

Thats right Community has been nominated for Choice TV: Breakout Show and Ken Jeong was nominated for his role on Community for Choice TV: Male Breakout Star at this years Teen Choice Awards!

The awards will be given out August 9 at the Katy Perry-hosted ceremony.

Children and teens have not had this much taste since they chose Chevy Chase to grace the cover of the very first issue of Nickelodeon Magazine over 20 years ago! (which is still proudly framed on my wall by the way)  Way to go Community and the Children of America!

The "Rock Star" Career of Chevy Chase

Drew McWeeny of hitfix.com writes an in depth and quite honest and fair overview of the Career of Chevy Chase. In the article McWeeny reviews the “Rock star” start of Chevy’s Career and the good and bad of the star’s films.

McWeeny writes:

…he was huge. He was rock star huge. He had three movies out in 1980, and you could argue that he managed to aim for three totally different audiences with the films. "Oh Heavenly Dog" was aimed squarely at kids, at the audience that had been carefully cultivated by the Benji brand. "Caddyshack" was aimed at adolescents of all ages. And "Seems Like Old Times" was a mainstream Neil Simon comedy that reunited him with Goldie Hawn, aimed squarely at the general adult audience. And all three of them worked for those audiences. You don't see comic leads doing that today, making choices that diverse, one on top of another like that. Today, comic actors tend to aim at a certain audience as much as possible. Working non-stop, though, was dangerous because not every script worked, and it seemed like Chase's agents were more concerned with exposure than with any sort of quality control.

McWeeny continues exploring the disastrous year that was 1981 with films like “Modern Problems” and “Under the Rainbow,” and then continues about 1983’s “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and it’s eventual sequels…

…in 1983, he made "National Lampoon's Vacation," one of the very best things he's ever done. In that first movie, I think Clark Griswold is arguably the best character Chevy's ever been given to play. I empathize with Clark, deeply, and I love that in the first film, the Griswolds are the center of the comic storm, victims of fate and circumstance, and Chevy in particular is playing a comic Job variation that I find enormously appealing. It's a great blistering R-rated comedy, with a sharp script by John Hughes and a perfect sense of how families implode when stuck together on road trips. Set piece after set piece, character after character, "Vacation" works because it was a great piece of material on the page, and then it was executed well. As obvious as that sounds, so few of the films in Chase's filmography started from a really solid piece of writing, and that's probably the biggest mistake he or any of the "SNL" actors ever made... that willingness to start shooting something that didn't have a script that was ready yet. Compare the first "Vacation" which came out of real experience and sincere observation with "National Lampoon's European Vacation" two years later, which was a mean-spirited, ugly, garish piece of crap. It makes the fundamental mistake of recasting the Griswolds as victimizers instead of victims. Europe doesn't happen to the Griswolds; the Griswolds happen to Europe. Like the plague. Even the better-but-not-as-good-as-the-first-one "Christmas Vacation" suffers because they decided to tone it down to a PG-13 while basically just aping the best parts of the first film.

Reviewing many of Chevy’s career disappointments McWeeny praises Chase’s recent work on Community:

Right now, Chevy does genuinely funny work every week on "Community," a show that has gotten better and better over the first year it's been on the air. The writers have created a deranged, perverted, racist idiot for him to play, and it's the most likeable he's been in years. I'd like to think that the Chevy Chase who burned down the goodwill of audiences and his co-stars and his creative collaborators finally had to change, and that the Chevy who stars on "Community" is a newly reformed Chevy, a Chevy who loves what he does again and who is open to more filmmakers trying different or risky things with him. Like I said, I've been a fan for so long that I hate hearing terrible things about him. I want to believe the best of Chevy Chase. I want to see more from him that reminds me of what made me laugh in the first place. I will always have a soft spot for him.

After all, he's Chevy Chase. And I'm not.

The Big Bang Theory VS Community This Fall!

CBS announced a surprise with their fall 2010 schedule.  It seems they will be moving the hit The Big Bang Theory to Thursday night opposite Community.

That means that Chevy Chase will be going head to head with his one time “son” Johnny Galecki who costarred with Chase in Christmas Vacation.  Galecki played Rusty Griswold in the 1989 film and you may remember Chase just presented the People’s Choice Award to Galecki and the cast and crew of the CBS hit this past year.

In another bold move it seems that the new William Shatner CBS show will be going up against the Office!

CBS is taking a shot at must see TV.  Will it work?

Caddyshack hits Blu-ray June 8th

Looks like June 8th is the day Chevy Chase fans have been looking forward to for some time!

Warner Brothers is releasing a 30th anniversary Caddyshack blu-ray!

Not much as far as extras unfortunately no extended scenes or deleted scenes or even a commentary of what many consider the greatest film of all time but something is better than nothing!

The Blu-ray does include:

Caddyshack: The 19th Hole - a retrospective documentary featuring hilarious outtakes, rare footage and interviews with stars Chevy Chase and Cindy Morgan, producers Jon Peters and Mark Canton, and director Harold Ramis, along with other cast and creative team members recalling their on-set experiences

Caddyshack: The Inside Story - feature-length bio documentary which includes new interviews with producers and stars about the making of Caddyshack.

The blu-ray is pretty much the same as the 19th and 20th anniversary dvd's but a clean HD print is a welcomed treat and the "Caddyshack: The Inside Story" Biography special is really great if you haven't seen it yet check it out!

Funniest Chevy lines s01e17

With last night’s “Physical Education” we got one of the funniest episodes yet and as always Mr. Chase gave us some of the funniest lines!

“If all Chinese were psychic, you would have started using birth control centuries ago.”

“I can’t think of anything more frightening than a half-Polish, half-Arab virgin in his 30s. One way or the other, that story ends with an explosion.”

Honorable mention goes to:

Abed for quickly saying “13,” a la Rain Man, after Jeff knocks a bag of bagels onto the floor.

Coach Bogner: “Jeff Winger, shouldn’t you be at an Urban Outfitters?”

Chevy Chase Vacation short leaked early?

I don't know if this was leaked or if Homeaway.com posted this two days early but here is what looks like the full Hotel Hell Vacation short.

The 30 second ad (which cost 2.5 million by the way) will air during the super bowl's 3rd quarter teasing the short film that was supposed to be available the following day.  

Perhaps Homeaway.com has more planned.

Regardless be sure to check out the site Monday for Griswold planned fun and games.

The short is really funny.  It is a big commercial for Homeaway.com but has some great moments.  

Plus Beverly looks amazing and I got a little teary eyed seeing them together again and in the truckster!

The Griswold invasion sweeps America!

Well maybe not but news of the upcoming Homeaway.com marketing is all over the web.

Preview of Hotel Hell Vacation starring Chevy Chase

Homeaway.com has added a youtube page to its marketing campaign with a ton of great video’s and behind the scenes footage of the new direct to the net Chevy Chase/Griswold vacation flick. That’s quite a mouth full.
