'Community' And The Art Of Confidence: An awesome story from NPR

Linda Holmes at NPR just wrote an amazing article on Community.  It explores some of the funniest moments of the first season and a wonderful explanation of “Streets ahead.”
From NPR:

Streets ahead. The first thing you need to know in order to appreciate all the levels at which this scene is firing is that show creator Dan Harmon had a run-in ("run-in" actually seems a little too hostile for what it was) with someone on Twitter who tossed out the insult, "Both Modern Family and Glee are streets ahead of your meta bull----." (Without the dashes.)
Harmon found the phrase "streets ahead," even (or maybe especially) in an insult directed at himself, absolutely hilarious, and he's been using it ever since. If you run a search on the phrase on this archive of his tweets, you will see just how much he loves it. And now, it made it into his show.
What's great about this particular inside joke is that even if you don't follow Harmon on Twitter and have no familiarity with this at all, it's still funny. But if you know that he's essentially teasing an obnoxious detractor, it's much funnier.

Jason Reitman interviews Donald Glover: Life of the (Tea) Party

Director Jason Reitman interviews Donald Glover for deathandtaxesmagazine.com.  Here they discuss everything from Donald's budding music career to what he hope to be doing in ten years!
Here's a preview:

Jason Reitman: When I listen to your hip-hop, you talk about being unpopular in high school. But I know you and you’re really funny and charming and handsome. It’s hard for me to believe that the guy you’re describing in high school is actually you, because I was that guy in high school.
Donald Glover: Yeah, but people would say the exact same thing about you, right? I’m sure that everybody that went to your high school, they would not be like, “Reitman, yeah, he was the white Urkel.”
JR: Ha! When I tell people that I was that kid stuck in the video lab, they actually think it makes a lot of sense.
DG: But yeah, my unpopularity bit was totally genuine. I was nervous because I was around all these tough inner-city kids, so I was trying to make them laugh all the time and getting myself in detention.
JR: You were a smart-ass?
DG: I was. But I was also getting my ass kicked a little bit. Kids just were not having it.
JR: You’ve been in fights?
DG: It wasn’t like a punch-punch crazy thing. I just remember kids pummeling me. I came to school once with this new Nike hat I’d gotten from my dad and this one kid took it and filled it with dirt that a cat hat pissed in. Like something out of a movie! He’s like, “Wear the hat with sand in it, damn it!” [laughs]
JR: It’s amazing, right? I mean, you would never do that to an adult.
DG: You can’t do that to an adult! You can only get away with that when you’re a kid.

Funniest Chevy Lines S01e22

Well Pierce went a little over the line last night and delivered some of the season’s best lines.
This time he nailed just about everyone in the group.

Annie: You said I have a crafty Jew brain.
Pierce: Nobody knows how to take a compliment anymore!
Britta: So what’s the context for constantly calling me as a lesbian?
Pierce: If the wallet chain fits… I’m just trying to help you find yourself.
Abed: He still assumes I’m a terrorist.
Pierce: If you’re not, I’m sorry. If you are, I’m a hero. I’m willing to take that chance.
“I’m not wearing my contacts.” — Pierce, with his glasses on, after mistaking a black woman for Shirley
“Why are Jeff and Britta making fun of those handicapped kids?” — Pierce

 What’s your favorite?

Annie's Boobs!

10 reasons to watch 'Community'

www.examiner.com has a great article giving us 10 reasons to watch Community. As if we needed more.
Here's a few:
6) Great guest stars.
Though the show's core cast is plenty funny, "Community" also boasts hilarious guest stars that complement the show's existing comedy geniuses. So far in the first season, there have been appearances by Jack Black, Eric Christian Olsen, Anthony Michael Hall, Katharine McPhee, and Tony Hale, among others.

10) Eye candy.
This cast is gorgeous! It's been established that Britta looks like Elisabeth Shue. Jeff certainly takes notice when Annie shakes down her hair. Shirley's sparkly eyes and big smile can light up anyone's day. Troy is a prom king, Abed's proved how suave he can be when acting like Don Draper, and Jeff's got that tousled hair thing down for sure. (And yes, people: Jeff has a tendency to disrobe!)

Joel and Jeong PSA? Declare War on Texting and driving.

I couldn't tell if this was real or just a joke but it seems do-gooders Joel and Ken are doing their part to bring attention to this very important cause which I didn't even know was a problem before watching.
